This excursion aims to present some general aspects of the German colonization in the basin of Lake Llanquihue through history, architecture and lake landscapes without leaving aside the cultural syncretisms with the Chiloé Huilliche culture that preceded it

Excursion Description: Before leaving Puerto Varas, we take a brief tour of the Heritage Quarter to appreciate its architecture of German and Chiloé influence, living testimony of the city

Then we head to Mount Calvary to give general information about the origins of Puerto Varas while delighting in a beautiful view of the city where the Church of the Sacred Heart, the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes and Cerro Tronador stand out

From Puerto Varas we go directly to Frutillar to visit the most emblematic sites such as the German Museum, the Clock, the iconic Teatro del Lago, the dock of the Bandurria boat, observing along the waterfront beautiful houses made by the second and third generations of the first settlers

In Frutillar Bajo there is an interesting local gastronomic offer that we will know and enjoy according to the preferences of the passengers

After lunch we continue along the shore of the lake to Los Bajos, to head to our third destination: Puerto Octay

 We parked in the square to walk to the pier in the urban wetland of Puerto Octay. Passengers stay on the waterfront where they can observe, weather permitting, some birds such as the Yeco, the Common Tagua, the Great and Small Heron and the Jergón Duck

On the way back to Puerto Varas we will see agricultural fields and houses of settlers who arrived in the basin from 1852, when these lands were a swampy jungle and there were no roads. The entrance to the lake on the south side was Puerto Varas and the northern entrance or exit was through Puerto Octay.

The tour we will make by land, the settlers had to do it by the lake. The need for lake transport led to the development of navigation, reaching its peak in the first decades of the last century. For this reason, we will also be able to observe on the tour some remains of the 45 docks that existed around the lake so that farmers could take their products, thus activating commercial relations between its inhabitants
